The Fun of Jet Ski Powersports

The Fun of Jet Ski PowersportsBy Melissa Kelly

Jet Ski Powersports is a thriving way to bring another level of enjoyment and excitement to jet ski enthusiasts. Many opportunities exist for riders to participate in great events.
The International Jet Sports Boating Association (ISJBA) has many competitions for both amateurs and pros. Also, many local jet ski clubs and organizations host jet ski powersports events. The ISJBA has a Competition Rulebook that explains the rules for particular events along with the qualifications for entry. Local events are an excellent way to get your start in jet ski powersports.
Once you have entered local events and gotten some experience and wins under your belt, you could try to compete in the National Championships. Beyond the National Championships, you can participate in the World Finals held in Lake Havasu City, Arizona in October each year.
Here is a listing of the types of events in which you can participate:
Closed Course – In this event, several racers go around multiple laps completing approximately 1/2 mile.
Drag Racing – Here racers go head-to-head over a course of approximately 1/8 mile long.
Endurance/Offshore – In these races, competitors race over long distances.
Freestyle – This competition can be fun to watch with competitors riding for two minutes showing off their complicated and creative tricks and skills.
Slalom – On this race course, each competitor makes zig-zag left and right turns around markers.
Indoor and Special Events – These are other available events with specialized rules.
Safety is of the utmost concern and if you want to make sure you are prepared, you might want to pay for some extra instruction through jet ski schools that can teach you a wide range of skills form the basic techniques to freestyle tips.
